About Us

Silkwood are a 4 piece wedding band from Galway.We play a wide variety of music from the 50's to the present to suit every taste and age group.


Like all established bands,Silkwood have gone through changes of membership through the years in order to adapt to the ever changing needs of our clients.While the core of the band is a 4 piece,if requested we can be a 5 piece or even a 10 piece depending on the needs of the particular client.The days of being rigid and sticking to one thing are long gone and with the ever changing wishes of young Brides and Grooms flexibility is the key.

We have a full professional PA system and lighting rig and we are completely live,everyone is a professional,there are no drum machines or music sequencers playing for us.Too often these days you look up at a stage and see a guitar player with the sound of a trumpet or an accordion coming out or a great drum sound but no drummer.We believe that if you want machines playing you should just hire another DJ.With us you get 100% LIVE MUSIC  and speaking of DJ's if requested
we offer a package which includes  a "PROFESSIONAL  DJ" and not just a band member with a laptop and some dodgy lights,we believe in the saying " each to their own profession"

 
We are known for being the band that plays the Grand ball at the World renowned Galway International Oyster festival every year.This year is very important in Galway with the world yacht race stopping off here and we are booked to play the Mayoral grand ball.We play weddings,corporate events,christmas parties,21st's and 40th's.In fact most birthday celebrations and wedding anniversaries.We work in all of the major Hotels around the west of Ireland.We have performed everywhere around the country from Ashford Castle to Slane Castle.

With Silkwood you get a day you will always remember,we believe that for example a bride shouldn't have to look back and think that everything was perfect but the band were too loud or too old fashioned or wouldn't play what they wanted.We work with everyone so that the whole wedding party are involved from the start.From where we bring everyone in and introduce them, right up to the end where we send them off and introduce the DJ.

Audience participation is the key all the way and of course we will learn that special song that means so much to each couple.Through the years we have gotten hundreds of requests for "One off songs" that we might never perform again but thats part of what it takes to make the day special.We find that brides and grooms even work out a special dance for the particular song as it's special to them.
